Coming from a background of athleticism as a competitive gymnast, Bonnie was first drawn to the physical aspects of yoga asana. She quickly began to sense that a shift was taking place on and off the mat and discovered a deeper sense of peace and happiness, a greater connection to Self and a new found emotional and spiritual "strength" which ignited a passion to want to share all the gifts of Yoga.
This passion lead Bonnie to her first teacher training in 2006. She became a registered Yoga Alliance 500hr E-RYT after completing a 200-hour Iyengar based training with Kim Valerie's Yoga Spirit Studios® and an advanced 500-hour training in the Para Yoga® Tantric-Hatha Yoga tradition with teachers Sue Neufeld and Kathryn Templeton. She continues these studies with their teacher Yogarupa Rod Stryker, founder of Para Yoga® as well as with his teacher Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, the spiritual head of the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, PA.
Bonnie’s greatest influence comes through her teacher Jill Miller, the creator of Yoga Tune Up®, and she is honored to be one of a small group of Yoga Tune Up® registered instructors. Jill has created an innovative, intelligent way to move beyond your stagnant and habitual patterns. YTU evolved out of a need to activate, awaken, and cultivate internal connections to parts of the body that are not fully "participating" in poses or natural human movement. It teaches you to live better in your body.
As a life-long student, Bonnie continues to challenge herself by attending trainings and workshops with such teachers as Shiva Rea, Rolf Gates, Anna Forrest, Seane Corn, Rodney Yee, Judith Hanson Lasater, Manorama, and Sadie Nardini, all of which informs her eclectic and playful style of teaching. She strives to give her students the space to trust their own process and the foundations on which to lay that trust, helping them to find freedom, mobility and a more embodied sense of self. Her goal is to have students leave her classes feeling more balanced, focused and empowered. Every moment is a choice, and yoga gives us the tools to make more skillful choices. .
Through humor and compassion we can all learn to open to the grace we hold within and ignite our own unique Inner Light. As Bonnie says, "Remember, it's not about avoiding the storms, it's learning to dance in the rain"!
