Embodied Asana Meditation in Motion 2-4:30pm
with Jill Satterfield
Jill Satterfield comes to us from NYC, Jill is founder of Vajra Yoga and has been teaching for 20 years. She has been a student of Buddhism for 17 years, which informs both her practice and teaching, studying primarily with Ajahn Amaro and Mingyur Rinpoche.
This intuitive synthesis of yoga and Buddhism arose as Jill healed from a debilitating physical condition. Practicing meditation, yoga asanas and visualization enabled her to heal beyond expectations. When she discovered the power of combining these practices, she knew she had found her life’s work. Vajra Yoga has been a pioneer in bringing yoga and Buddhism together in a seamless blend.
On Sunday June 14th, Jill will share with us the practice of Embodied Asana, Meditation in Motion. Embodied Asana is based on sensing your body, breath and movement. It is a practice of bringing consciousness to each moment of moving through asana (yoga postures). What is it like to really feel what you're doing in a yoga pose? To really sense your body, all of it's signals and sensations; It's a lot to detect, but what a wonderful tool kit for our lives. To move mindfully in a yoga practice, sensing what is going on both internally and externally, helps us to wake up more in our every day lives. By stilling the mind our inner eyes and ears perk up, and sensations previously unfelt become known. The inner energetic body is just as real as the outer body that we can see and touch - but in our Western society, who's actually brought up to know it? www.vajrayoga.com *All levels welcome!!

A Burning Desire God, Buddha and the Path to Recovery 5-7pm
with Kevin Griffin
Kevin Griffin is the author of One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps and the forthcoming A Burning Desire: God, Buddha, and the Path of Recovery.
Kevin was trained as a Community Dharma Leader at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and is a co-founder of the Buddhist Recovery Network, an international organization supporting training and research into the uses of mindfulness and Buddhist teachings in addiction treatment. This evening talk on June 14th will focus on understanding the Dharma and its many aspects as "Higher Powers."
The recovery literature says we have to find God in order to get sober. Buddhism is known as a non-theistic religion. How can someone with a Buddhist orientation practice the 12 Steps? Kevin will blend the practice of Mindfulness and Meditation in working with addiction and recovery. Click here for more.
*It is not necessary to currently be in recovery, or suffer with alcohol or drug use, to attend this discussion. Anyone dealing with addictions of any kind, or living with someone in recovery, are warmly welcome.
